Mumbai: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s announcement of filling 72,000 vacancies in government services in two years could turn out merely as an alleged oasis to the young job seekers. The posts will be filled up on a very small remuneration like Shikshan Sevak/Gramsevak at department level, bypassing the MPSC (Maharashtra Public Service Commission) for five years. The state government employees union has strongly opposed the move, terming it as a ‘contractual recruitment of choice persons’ in the government.

The union’s general secretary G.D. Kulathe has demanded the withdrawal of the decision. Mr Favnavis had declared the lifting of the ban on government recruitment in the budget session of the legislature recently and had promised 72,000 government jobs in two years. But because of financial crunch, government has decided to fill these posts on the small remuneration basis for five years. The government is filling the vacant posts in the departments of agriculture, animal husbandry, public health, home and a few others.

As per rules, the government should recruit through MPSC only with few exceptions. But now these posts will be filled through the concerned departments and employees will be paid up to Rs 10-15,000 per month. Government is not paying them as per regular pay scale and has asked these departments to finalise the rules and recruit these employees directly.
