Mumbai: The special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday took cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI against diamantaire Nirav Modi and also ordered to issue non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him, his brother Neeshal and an employee Subhash Parab.

Issuance of NBW against these persons would allow the CBI to fulfil the criteria of Interpol for issuing Red Corner Notice (RCN).

According to a CBI officer an NBW has already been issued against Modi in April. However, once the NBW is issued after court takes cognisance of the chargesheet the CBI will approach Interpol for issuance of RCN for Modi and other accused in this case. This action will help the CBI to trace them and once that’s done, the agency can initiate procedure to extradite them to India.

The CBI in its application had said that the NBW issued earlier against Modi and others could not be executed because the said accused persons have fled from the country. “In view of these facts and circumstances letter of request are required to be sent by this court to different countries in for investigation,” read the application.
