Sakinaka police record statements
Mumbai: The Sakinaka police has recorded the statements of the eight survivors of the recent fire in a farsan shop, and is questioning accused Ramesh Bhanushali over his alleged negligence.
Most survivors said they woke up minutes after the shop was on fire, and started running for their lives. Some of the workers tried to douse the fire at first, but when they knew it was blowing out of control, they ran for their lives. Bhanushali is keeping mum, but the police is still grilling him to get details.
A police source said that Bhanushali who was arrested on Monday night for building an illegal extra floor and not following fire-safety norms, has been keeping mum about the matter. The police are now grilling him over questions pertaining to as to why the safety norms were ignored.
The police have also requested the BMC officers to fast track the case so that the action is taken. The civic body has said that it will submit its report within 15 days on the norms breached by the shop owner, but the police’s hands are tied until then, added the source.
An officer, on the condition of anonymity said that the police has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to expedite the submission of its probe’s findings , so that appropriate action can be initiated.
