Mumbai: The wish of WhatsApp users to recall their messages might be granted soon as the free messaging service provider is testing the recall or edit content option. When implemented, this new feature will enable the sender to delete, recall or edit the content within five minutes of sending the message. The under-test feature will offer millions of users a way to prevent embarrassment over mistaken texts or typos.
According to reports by technology portals as well as reviews by experts on the development of this new feature, though it is uncertain as to when the feature will be available, it could be an addition in the beta version of the latest update by WhatsApp. “Whatsapp is testing the addition as an option in the beta version of its latest update, which could soon be available on iOS,” according to monitors, WABetaInfo.
The monitor also mentioned that it was not clear whether the delete/edit option will include texts that have already been delivered and read, or just those that are still in transit or unread. The option will work by pressing and holding on the message, provided it has not been read. This will then give two options, either edit or revoke.
When asked about the option, Yash Dhelia, a young WhatsApp user said, “The introduction of the option will be a boon for all users. Many a times we start regretting a message sent in anger or in haste and want to recall it desperately, but cannot do so. If the feature is added it will be a major boon for all.”
