Mumbai: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a man from Assam for issuing threats to BCCI saying he will eliminate cricket players. After a discreet inquiry, ATS arrested this person.

The ATS on Thursday arrested an Assam resident, identified as Braja Mohan Das, for sending an e-mail threatening to kill Indian cricket players.

A team of ATS later left for his village Shantipur, in district Morigaon in Assam to arrest him.

Das, who was taken into custody from Assam on August 20, was produced before a local court in Mumbai on Thursday.

The court remanded him to police custody till August 26 to enable the police to carry out further investigation.

The Mumbai police had swung into action after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on August 16 received an e-mail from a man threatening to kill the Indian cricketers.  The e-mail was received on BCCI’s official e-mail ID.

According to police, since the threat mail was very sensitive in nature, the ATS conducted a discrete inquiry into it and then registered an offence under section 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of IPC read with section 7 of Criminal Law Amendment Act 1932, on August 19.

According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had received an e-mail on August 16 stating that the Indian cricket team, which was in the middle of the tour of West Indies, was under threat of an imminent attack.

The PCB immediately forwarded the said mail to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Meanwhile the ICC and BCCI also received the copy of the said e-mail within next 24 hours.

The BCCI then appraised the Union home ministry about the situation and contacted the Indian embassy in Antigua – where the Indian cricket team was stationed to play a test match.

The home ministry then contacted the Maharash-tra DGP Subodh Jaiswal. During investigation into the e-mail the ATS tra-cked down Das and arre-sted him and now further investigation is going on.
