Mumbai: Sujata Patil, a deputy superintendent of Police (DSP) posted in Hingoli district of Aurangabad division, took to social media to question the police department's insensitivity to problems faced by women, especially those who are physically-challenged.

According to Patil, she was travelling on the Punjab Mail on Sunday morning and got down at Andheri station, only to witness the plight of a physically-challenged girl who was struggling to hail an auto rickshaw but no one seemed to heed her. Ms Patil assisted the girl and took her to Andheri police station but was shocked by the behaviour of the police personnel. Ms Patil did not reveal her identity to the personnel at the police station.

According to Ms Patil, two policewomen were rude to her and asked her to leave when she sought assistance for the girl.

Ms Patil narrated her experience on Facebook, questioning why such policewomen join the service when they are not sensitive to the plight of women.

Talking to The Asian Age , Ms Patil said, “After travelling for 15 hours from Bhopal to Mumbai  on a train which was already three hours late, I was alighting at Andheri station when I saw a handicapped girl struggling with her luggage and unable to get down. After getting down from the train, she was struggling to get an rickshaw and the women cops, constable Shirke and constable Dhanavade attached to D. N Nagar police station, sitting on exactly the opposite side was watching her. But no one came to assist her, I couldn't control my anguish, hence without disclosing my identity I went ahead to help her.”

She further said, “None of the rickshaw drivers came and nor did the women constable come to help, so we both went to Andheri police station outside the platform, but there also we were insulted and no one responded to our plea. She wondered how such policewomen join the service when they are not sensitive to the plight of women.” The DCP of D.N.Nagar police station of Zone IX, Parmajit Dahiya said, “I am not aware about the incident but will get the details. If it's true, we will take action.”
