The CBI recently examined three senior Mumbai police officers in the 2012 Sheena Bora case over details related to the case’s initial probe that was supervised by them till the agency took over the case last September.

The CBI during its examination of the three IPS officers sought to gather details on several issues including on how Sheena’s mother, key case accused Indrani Mukerjea, had allegedly attempted to mislead the police about her daughter’s alleged missing status at a time she was dead. Sheena (24) was allegedly strangled in a moving car at Bandra (west) in April 2012 by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai. Sheena’s body was then dumped in a forest in the neighbouring Raigad district.

Since September, the CBI “examined” DGP (Home Guards) and former Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria and two other senior Mumbai police officers as part of its investigations in the Sheena case, which is in its final stages. Apart from Mr Maria, the CBI also examined joint commissioner of police (law and order) Deven Bharti and deputy commissioner of police (Zone-X) Satya Narayan Chaudhary to gather “information and clarifications related to the case probe that could be used in the investigation,” said a CBI source. The source said that the trio was examined, as it was part of the initial Mumbai police probe team that had investigated the case before the case was handed over to the agency.

Despite attempts, The Asian Age could not reach the three officers for their response.
