Ashutosh Pednekar of Indian Navy, Mumbai, bagged a double gold for India in the 1st Thailand Open Racketlon Championship, at the Hotel Ambassador, in Na-Jomtien, Pattaya.

The 2016 Super World Tour Championship winner, won the men’s singles Open Elite, becoming  the only Asian ever to win gold in the category, and added the men’s singles over-40 title.

Pednekar was among players from below the top 20 in the world rankings to feature in the championship. The contest has a Challenger status, which means that every player received world ranking points.

The championship, the first ever to be held in Asia, was organised by the German Racketlon Federation and was held under the auspices of the Federation International de Racketlon (FIR), the world ruling body.

Racketlon is a combination of the individual racket-sports disciplines: table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis, in that order.

The winner of a game is one who collects most points in all four disciplines.
