Id Mubarak!
After 30-days of fasting, Id is finally here. Celebrities from both sides of the border talk to us on what they’ve got planned for the special day.
Adaa Khan —
Id creates an aura of positivity — it is the most-awaited festival for us. I remember as a child, getting lot of Idi with which I would buy chocolates for my friends and myself. Like every year, this year too I will be celebrating with family and friends. I plan to hog on a lot of biryani and chhole puri and sevaiya. But I must say that the the recent terrorist attacks abroad are a very painful thought. It dampens the general mood.
Ayaz Khan — Getting a chutti is always difficult when you work for a daily show. But this Id I have managed to get a holiday. Both my brothers live in England and my mother is alone here, so it has become a ritual for me to spend Id with her. I help her clean the house and also help her out in the kitchen. I think that I am great company, but my mother doesn’t agree (laughs). She gets really happy when people come to visit, so I have invited a few friends over to celebrate Id.
Iqbal Khan — I am going to be one of the lucky few to be getting a holiday on Id. But even when I don’t have a holiday, I make it a point to celebrate the day with my family. I offer namaz in the morning and then go home to relish my wife’s amazing sheer khurma — she is an amazing cook! After that, it’s time for a family outing. My daughter insists on going to her favourite restaurant and so it’s time for a long luncheon. I don’t have too many friends, so for me, it’ll be a day well spent with family. With all the news about terror attacks, I insist that we spread the message of peace, unity and hope this Id. Id Mubarak to everyone!
Sara Khan — I strongly believe that working on Id brings loads of good luck. So I am really glad I am having a working Id. But that doesn’t mean I won’t celebrate. I will be celebrating with my sisters in the morning at home. My younger sister Yeman has come down from Bhopal for Id, so we are going to be having a lot of fun. I love cooking, so I am going to make myself a nice serving of sheer khurma. But the celebration will not end at home. It will only move to the set later in the day and I will be celebrating with the cast and crew of my show Kawach. So here’s wishing everyone a very happy Id.
Mohammad Nazim — I celebrate Id in my hometown every year. The best memory is receiving Idi from mom. We keep a party and lot of sweets are prepared at home. When my show Saathiya was a hit and I went home after a long time, it was an amazing experience as relatives and well-wishers from the entire area came to wish us. Ramadan is a cleansing period, but the terrorist attacks hamper the mood. Let us all try and spread the message of peace as much as we can.
Mawra Hocane — My first Id was in Berlin with my siblings. And now again I am in Berlin celebrating with them. Id is a beautiful day for me and the warmth and happiness of this day always overwhelms me like it did when I was a child. I also want to remember the people who’ve lost the dear ones recently in the attacks worldwide and pray for world peace!
Sami Khan — Id celebrations have always been special for me and my family. As I am also celebrating my birthday this Id, I am spending time with family and friends. Hope this Id brings prosperity and good health to all. Let’s spread peace and love and make this world a better place to live in. Id Mubarak to all my viewers in India.
Varun Sharma — I have many Muslim friends, since childhood; they celebrate Diwali with me and I celebrate Id with them at their place. This year too, I will be visiting my best friend, Ebrahim’s place to celebrate with him and his family.
Asif Sheikh — The makers of my show, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai have given me a chutti for Id. So first, I will be going to the mosque early in the morning with my dad and my son to offer Id ki namaz. And then I will be spending the rest of the day at an orphanage close to my house. My wife and I like to celebrate Id every year with the orphaned girls there. This experience has given us a lot of inner peace and satisfaction. Id is a special gift from God to Muslims who fast. The holy month of Ramadan teaches you tolerance and control. Our lifestyles should be based on pious ways, so this Id I want to urge people to be good and pious and spread peace and harmony.
Anas Rashid — I have come to my hometown Mallerkotla to celebrate Id. Whenever I visit my home, I completely forget that I am from the glamour industry and behave like a normal village guy. The best part is that all my relatives and friends have now gotten used to my stardom and don’t give me any special treatment. So I get to celebrate Id like a normal guy and that keeps me connected to my roots and keeps me grounded. All my non-Muslim friends also celebrate Id with us and that’s truly heartening.
