Mumbai: After violent protests against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama 'Padmaavat', another upcoming Bollywood film has started facing a similar opposition. This film is none other than Kangana Ranaut's much-awaited film 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi'. The film was accused of distorting the historical facts by the protesting groups.

The film is reportedly based on Rani, authored by Jaishree Misra, which claims that the queen of Jhansi had an affair with British officer Robert Ellis; the book had been previously banned in 2008 by the then Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh government.

As reported by the Indian Express, Sarva Brahman Mahasabha president Suresh Mishra held a press conference in Jaipur to address the issue where he also claimed that there are scenes in the film portraying a love affair between Rani of Jhansi and a British man.

Misra said, “We learnt about it from our friends and acquaintances in various parts of Rajasthan where some scenes of the film are being shot. The film is based on a foreigner’s book and tries to dampen the queen’s reputation.”

'Padmaavat' faced wrath from many fringe groups for allegedly distorting the history. Amid controversies, the film released worldwide on January 25.

'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' is directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and produced by Kamal Jain and Zee Studios.

The highly anticipated biographical film is based on the life of the queen of the princely state of Jhansi, Rani Laxmibai and her war against the British East India Company during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

It is slated to release later this year.
