Split in UP BJP over rape charge on its MLA

Lucknow: The BJP in Uttar Pradesh is clearly divided on the issue of the rape case against BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

While some leaders are openly supporting the beleaguered legislator and claiming that he is being framed, other are gunning for his head.

BJP spokesman I.P. Singh claimed in a tweet on Thursday morning that “Pujniye Yogiji had decided to get Kuldeep Sengar arrested and was also preparing to suspend the Unnao SP but a senior leader (ek bade vyakti) intervened  and the party is now paying the price for it”.

On Wednesday, another BJP spokesperson Deepti Bharadwaj had tweeted, “Amit Shahji UP ko bacha lijiye, sarkar ke nirnay sharamsar kar rahe hain”, the reference being to the Unnao rape.

On the other hand, Surendra Singh, BJP MLA from Ballia, came out in support of Kuldeep Sengar with a rather bizarre argument. “Who will rape a mother of three children? I am speaking from psychological point of view; no one can rape a mother of three children. It is not possible and this is a conspiracy against Mr Sengar,” the MLA form Ballia said.
