'Neither Sunny Deol nor Sunny Leone' would help BJP: Congress
The Congress has fielded Sunil Jakhar against Sunny Deol in this term’s election battle.
Gurdaspur: Taking a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party and its Lok Sabha candidate from Gurdaspur constituency Sunny Deol, Congress leader and Hoshiarpur candidate Raj Kumar Chabbewal said the “Congress wave” would not be stopped whether BJP fields ‘Sunny Deol or Sunny Leone’.
The Congress has fielded Sunil Jakhar against Sunny Deol in this term’s election battle.
Jakhar, who is also the state Congress chief, has raised questions on Deol’s knowledge about the constituency.
“People know that Deol is limited to cinema and politics is not his forte. Politics is a serious business,” Jakhar said.
On Monday, Deol had addressed an election rally in Gurdaspur. “He did not give any speech but simply uttered filmy dialogues,” Jakhar added.
Previously, actor Vinod Khanna of BJP had won this constituency in 2014 which fell vacant after his death. Congress’ Sunil Jakhar won the bypoll held in 2017.
Deol's father Dharmendra had successfully contested the election in 2004 from Bikaner on BJP's ticket.
His stepmother Hema Malini is the incumbent Memeber of Parliament from Mathura and shall be contesting the election in 2019 from the same seat on BJP's ticket.
