Kolkata: A Trinamul Congress councillor of the Kolkata municipal corporation has come in the eye of storm of the party’s top leadership after he made a controversial post in a social networking site declaring to quit politics due to frustration aparently for not getting a ticket for the Rajya Sabha.

Baiswanor Chattopadhyay, who is on the dock, is the ruling party’s councillor of ward number 90 and also the chairman of borough number eight of the KMC.

He is also vice chairman in the Calcutta state transport corporation. Mr Chattoapadhyay, a lawyer, is likely to slapped with a show cause notice for his outburst on Friday night in a Facebook post where he described himself as ‘unfit in dirty politics’. He also complained of not being able to ‘continue’ with his activities while ‘bidding adieu’ to political life. His post triggered controversy instantly as the Trinamul leadership came to know about it. Mr Chattopadhyay deleted the post later.

Sources indicated that he turned dejected after another Trinamul councillor in the KMC: Santanu Sen of ward number three and an INTTUC leader Subhashis Chakraborty were named by chief minister Mamata Banerjee among the party’s four candidates. On Saturday Mr Chattopadhyay said, “I do not think whatever I do will embarrass anyone in the party. But what I did was out of a lost-hope and depression. I am withdrawing my comments. I should not do any such thing as a disciplined soldier.” He added, “As a founder member of the Trinamul I must display restraint and patience. But I am mentally devastated. When I suffer from depression, I can not control myself. I hope I will be able to keep my mental agony within me only.”
