TV actor held for raping and blackmailing woman

Mumbai: The Oshiwara police has arrested television actor Karan Oberoi after a girl lodged a complaint that he sexually assaulted her after promising to marry her.

The complainant said that Oberoi videotaped the act and demanded money from her in return for not making the clip public.

The police arrested the actor Sunday night after the complainant lodged a FIR with them.

The complainant said that she knew the actor since the past few years and that the incident took place at her residence.

The actor allegedly promised to marry her and later shot some objectionable clips of theirs only to extort money from her.

“The actor blackmailed her and took money from her. We are questioning the accused based on the allegations raised against him and investigation is underway,” said an officer of the Oshiwara police station.

The actor was last seen in the web series ‘Inside Edge’. He also shot to fame with the daily soap, “Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin”.

The officials said that the actor sexually assaulted the girl on several occasions but his intentions came to the fore only when he started blackmailing her after which she decided to approach the police.

The police has recorded a detailed statement of the victim, and is gathering further evidence in connection with the complaint.

The police arrested Oberoi under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) under the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in a local court Monday and has been remanded to police custody till Thursday.
