The Western Railway (WR) on Wednesday received a bomb threat at Bandra Terminus by post, causing the Railways and city police to go on high alert.

The warning, which comes in the backdrop of the recent terror attacks in France, is the fifth such threat made to WR in the past few weeks.

At 12.20 pm Bandra Terminus (BDTS) received the letter, which stated that the Katara Shri Vaishno Devi to Hapa, the Ahmedabad to Darbhanga and the Bombay Central to Ferozepur Janata Express from Bombay Central to Surat had bombs on them.

The first threat, which was received on October 30 at Navsari station at 11.45 am, stated that a bomb would blow up in the Gujarat Express, Rajdhani Express and the August Kranti. The second threat, which was received at Bardoli station on November 7 at 12.30 pm in the form of a letter, stated that the station itself as well as a State Transport bus depot would be blown up.

The third threat came on November 10 at Rajkot station an hour before the train it mentioned was to depart. It stated that there was a bomb inside the Kaviguru Express. The train, which was to depart at 3.50 pm, was checked and departed at 4.57 pm after it was found to be safe.

The fourth threat, which was made at the Navsari station again on November 17, said that the 19708 Arvali to BDTS, 09562- Okha to BDTS the Paschim Express, Veraval to Thiruvananthapuran, the Bikaner to BDTS Super-fast Express and the Jodhpur to Pune train would be blown up.

WR chief public relations officer Sharat Chandrayan confirmed that the threat had been made and said the city police has been informed about it, and the aforementioned trains, as well as others, are being checked on priority basis. “We have received the Bandra threat via post like the earlier ones. We have informed the

Government Railway Police and the Railway Police Force, who have informed the city police about the threat,” said Nr Chandrayan.
