Clicking on the go

Living his dream through his camera, photographer Nakul Sharma loves telling stories through images.

Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life — Michael Palin famously said. Nakul Sharma, traveller and photographer, has been traveling since 2009, exploring and experiencing the most beautiful, cultural and adventurous places of the world.

“I am living my dreams of travelling with my camera. It allows me to capture the hidden and the most astonishing beauties of the world. As I was growing up, I realised that my life is meant for travelling and eventually I started pursuing another passion of mine — photography. My life is presented now in terms of composition, saturation, lenses, colours and travelogue,” says the travel photographer.

Born and brought up in New Delhi, Nakul believes in sharing his travel experiences and explorations through his photos. For him, in every photo, there is a story to narrate; it must convey a strong message to the viewers. “I click to define my travelogues and to promote and conserve nature and cultural heritages,” he says.

For Nakul, his passion became his profession. “Travelling helps in many ways — one can even get educated and live a life like any other, unlike what people think of travel photographers. World is too big and beautiful so I decided to go out and live and learn different cultures and understand life more,” says Nakul, who has been to 14 countries in two-and-a-half years and every place is special for him.

“I always come back with great stories and memories but I still prefer to go back to Iceland, Spiti Valley and Myanmar,” he says while talking about his favourite photography locations.

Shooting in the mountains is not always easy, Nakul says, “I can’t control the weather, so I instead choose to work with it.” Recalling a few dangerous encounters during his many journeys, he adds, “I have encountered many while riding my motorbike up in the Himalayas. I am still here alive and safe, so it’s okay but every dangerous moment was worth it for the photos. While I was shooting a waterfall in Iceland, I slipped and went down the hill. That’s what makes us photographers and story tellers I believe, without risk there is no gain.”

Shooting exclusively with Canon, Nakul always takes three cameras on a shoot as well as a variety of lenses.
