A walk in luxury
Here's a sneak peak at some of the world's most expensive sneakers. A few are actually dipped in gold and some are even embellished with diamonds.
While your sneakers are perfect for everyday activities, with the right amount of cash, your trainers can get a lot more expensive. There are trainers that alone could cost more than a diva’s entire shoe collection. Some are dipped in the yellow metal and are worth their weight in gold, literally. Then there are some that are embellished with diamond pieces. Here’s a look at some of the most expensive sneakers in the world. Be sure to have a security detail when you step out wearing them.
APL Crocodile Skin dipped in Gold $20,000
The first ever pair of sneakers to have crocodile skin dipped in 24K gold. It took the makers two years to come up with the concept, and eventually market the sneakers. It’s little wonder that only about 20 pairs have ever been produced. The made-to-order sneakers need you to pay 100 per cent upfront, and patiently wait for 12 weeks before you can lay your hands on — or feet into — them and strut off. You can even include your name on the shoe, but don’t expect them to arrive any time soon!
Air Mag Trainer Cost up to $10,000
Remember the slick shoes from Back to the Future 2? Who would have thought they’d be reality some day! Nike designer Tinker Hatfield toiled for six years to recreate the on-screen sneakers for retail, and thus Nike’s Air Mag was born. The trainers boast of a futuristic design with self-fastening or power laces, rechargeable lighting system in the sole, Electroluminescent out-sole, and constructed with space age materials.
Carhartt X Eminem $18,000
When Slim Shady completed 15 years of his album, The Marshall Mathers LP, he had a special treat for his fans. He collaborated with Dual Carhartt and Air Jordan for these sneakers made from rugged canvas, which make the sneakers as tough as they get. The sneakers have ShadyXV logo, Eminem’s backward ‘E’ and typical hockey mask.
Way of Wade the Fire Monkey $4,000,000
Paul Simon may well have written ‘Diamonds on the soles of her shoes’ about these WoW wonders. The world’s most expensive sneakers boast of custom-made white diamond and blue sapphire pieces set in 18 karat gold.
The sneakers from the Bicion brand are designed by Dan Gamache of Mache Custom Kicks, and created by jewellery engineers. A perfect combination of blue, white, and gold in floral pattern, the sneakers have a solid gold hangtag with logos of Bicion and Mache Customs embossed on it.
