Now that a furore has broken out over a dialogue in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, where speaking about the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi Anushka Sharma says, “Mohd. Rafi gaate nahin rotey the”, the question being asked is, what was the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) doing when these words were spoken

“Since any dialogue causing hurt to any individual or community is not allowed, how could a line that insults a singer who is a national icon be allowed ” asks a senior filmmaker.

Apparently Pahlaj Nihalani, the chairperson, CBFC has ordered an inquiry into how the line went unnoticed when the film was viewed by the board.

“It was only after the uproar that the censor board realised they had missed the insult to Rafi saab. Now Karan Johar may be asked to beep out the dialogue from the film all across theatres in India and abroad,” says a source in the know.
