Farhan Akhtar won’t sing for anybody else

Farhan Akhtar has quite the fan following even for his vocal skills. Apparently there is much demand for the actor to lend his voice to other leading men. Ranveer Singh, for one, was keen that Farhan sing for him in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do. But Farhan has resolved not to sing for anyone but himself.

He says, “In all honestly, playback singing is not my scene. I see singing as an extension of my performance on screen. So no, I can’t sing for anyone else. I am also doing independent music. For me to sing for another actor is not an exciting thought.”

Farhan confesses that he is mighty kicked by his singing career though. “I cannot begin to tell you how joyous it is to go on stage and perform. Like skydiving, it’s an experience that can’t be explained, only experienced. On stage, there is an instant connect with the audience.”

Farhan sees singing as a means for his social activities too. “I wanted a vehicle that would take my ideas to colleges and schools. Youngsters respond to music. It opens up the public’s heart. Music has worked tremendously to enhance my social conscience. The impact of music is by far, more influential than acting or directing. It’s inherent in all of us.”
