Is Honey ready to stage a comeback

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh’s appearance at the recently held Zee Cine Awards came as a surprise, and a shock, to his fans and the industry. Honey has been flying under the radar for over two years now, after suddenly dropping out of Bollywood at the height of his career.

Rumours about what caused Honey’s disappearance — addiction issues, a falling out with Shah Rukh Khan etc — have been doing the rounds for a while now. But Honey’s re-emergence at the red carpet event (after he patched up with SRK at a party a few weeks ago) has got tongues wagging about whether or not the rapper is ready to make a comeback.

Unfortunately, those closest to Honey say that he is not ready to resume his phenomenal career from where he left off. “He is disoriented, disconnected from the entertainment industry. Something happened to him two years ago that broke his spirit,” says a former friend, one of the many Honey cut off from after his alleged breakdown.

Some say the showdown he had with SRK in the US while on a global concert tour broke his morale and he had a nervous breakdown. Another theory is that the demands of his career (he was also the face of a TV talent hunt show, from which he dropped out abruptly as well) was the cause. Others say he needed to undergo a rigorous detoxification programme.

So it will be a while before Honey returns. “He isn’t coming back yet. The reports that he would sing a song for Salman Khan in Sultan are completely false. There is no desire from Honey’s side to return. Nor is the entertainment industry inclined to take him back as yet,” a source in the know reports.
