Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is known for his versatile acting skills, is currently putting his energies towards promoting his upcoming film, Freaky Ali, which is set to release later in the month. We caught up with the actor, who spoke about his role in the movie, the on-screen romance with Amy Jackson, and how he chooses his films.
How does it feel to do a solo commercial film for the first time I am very thrilled about Freaky Ali. Though I had a solo hero's part in Manjhi, this film is more into the commercial space. Sohail bhai has made an interesting film. People will get to see a different Nawaz this time around.
What is your role in the film I am playing a golf player in the film. I like to do different kinds of roles and this is definitely a new experience for me. I make sure that I do variety of roles as an actor. I don’t want to get bored of doing same dark roles.
Why the title Freaky Ali It was Ali before but the makers changed it to Freaky Ali. Whatever Ali does in the film is freaky, hence the title.
Will we get to see you romancing leading lady Amy Jackson Yes, I will be romancing her in the film. The film has a unusual romantic track. It is different from what you usually see. I also want to do more romantic films now.
Salman Khan has been promoting the film a lot I am so happy that Salman is promoting our film. It is a plus for us to be associated with him through this film. I have done Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan with him and he is an interesting person. I believe that Salman’s assistance will help Freaky Ali reach a larger audience.
People also say that after doing films with Salman, you have entered into the space of commercial cinema For me a film is just a film, be it Manjhi, Raman Raghav or Bajrangi Bhaijaan. I believe in doing something different with every film that I do. People should not come out bored from the movies. I feel ‘commercial’ and ‘art’ are just the tags given to films. I don’t believe in categorising my films in that way.
What are your next projects I am doing Munna Michael with Tiger Shroff and we will go on floors from October. I am also doing Manto, which we will shoot in December and January, and I have signed Ritesh Batra's next, Photographer, but I don’t know when it is going on floors.
