I would love to do a Marathi movie with Genelia, says Riteish Deshmukh

Known for his comic timing, Riteish Deshmukh is now ready with Banjo. We caught the actor for a quick chat about his role, bonding with co-star Nargis Fakhri and plans to work with Genelia Deshmukh in a Marathi movie.

Has it been a conscious decision to move away from comedy off late I feel it’s about an offer or an opportunity. I was not offered films like Ek Villain and Banjo in my career before. I would’ve chosen such films way back, but Ek Villain was successful and other films, like Rann, unfortunately didn’t work. Hence, the offers went back to comedies. But now, I’m glad that people are experimenting with casting. Producers must’ve thought that I had done comedies and I should be made to act as a villain, and it worked. Later, I did Lai Bhaari, which was an action drama. It was the same audience, who have seen me doing comedies since ages.

What kind of a movie is Banjo It’s a musical drama. It’s a film that talks about hopes and chances; the story is about four slum boys, who are great banjo players, but have different jobs. One is an extortionist, one sells newspapers, the third guy is a mechanic at a garage and the fourth plays shehnais at weddings. Nargis comes to India in search of a new sound and it’s about how they meet and explore a different world. The film is also representation of several street performers, who don’t get a chance to prove themselves on a bigger stage.

This is your second movie with Nargis Nargis is a crazy girl; she’s a lot of fun. She doesn’t mince words and has great energy. She plays the role of a girl who comes from NYC and she suited the role so much.

How difficult is it for an established star like you to handle low phases I’ve never celebrated my success and never mourn my failures. For me, Friday is the day to mourn and celebrate, and Saturday is a new day to get back to work.

Are we going to see you and Genelia together on screen some time soon I would love to do a Marathi film with her now. She has to be ready to do the film and we will do it whenever she says yes to me. It might be Tujhe Meri Kasam 2 or could be Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya 2!
