After Great Grand Masti, YRF’s big Id offering Sultan got leaked on the dark web on Tuesday, a day before its official worldwide release. ‘Dark web’ is a term that refers specifically to a collection of websites that are publicly visible, but hide the IP addresses of the servers that run them. Filmmakers, instead of tracing the culprits for the leak, have been trying to play down the issue in the hope that it doesn’t gain any more attention than it already has and in turn, doesn’t translate into more illegal downloads.

Incidentally, the CBFC’s name has been dragged into the leak mess both the times. CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani in response to the allegation said, “It is easy to pin the blame on the censor board since some of these leaked films online have ‘censor certificate’ written on them. But just because these films are watermarked to the censor, we don’t become culpable. There are many stages where the films could be leaked. Rather than try to hush up the crime, production houses should carry out a thorough public investigation and check the leakage before it kills the film business.”
