If things had gone according to plan, then the bilingual film Uthama Villain would have been the first in which father-daughter pair Kamal and Shruti Haasan would have shared screen space. But Shruti didn’t have dates to spare at the time, and had to opt out.

But now, Kamal will finally be seen in a film with Shruti — an action-comedy that will be shot in the US.

Confirming the development, Kamal said, “Yes, Shruti and I will be working together finally. Just completed the first draft of the screenplay and it’s looking good.” About the project, he shared, “It’s a comedy-action film. I am in the US, where the movie is going to be shot. Those who have information of this script also are keen to produce it in Hindi.”

Kamal also said that he was glad in a way, that this new film (and not Uthama Villain) would be his first with Shruti. “Our dates didn’t work out (back then), but in a way, it was a good thing. It was too early then for Shruti and me to share screen space together. (There would have been) too much pressure on both of us. Now when she has more experience, we will be more comfortable acting together.”
