Pakistani actress Mowra Hocane is making her debut in the soon-to-be-released Sanam Teri Kasam, a romantic musical love story. And though she was offered quite a few movies earlier, she rejected them all.
“My idea of coming to Bollywood wasn’t to star beside a famous star. I wanted to do films that have substance. So, when Sanam Teri Kasam was offered I grabbed it,” she says. After listening to the script Mowra knew that it was the perfect launch vehicle for her journey in Bollywood. “I play a very strong role in the film and the story revolves around me, so I got a huge margin to perform. My role has everything that a debutant ewould want,” she says.
Talking about the story, she says, “It’s a compassionate love story, something that we don’t get to see anymore.” Mowra says that the role she plays is very simple. “I play a South Indian girl who is a big dreamer but puts her family before her own dreams. But as the film progresses, she starts exploring her inner feelings and that forms a major part of the story.”
Despite being a newcomer, the idea of preparing for a role doesn’t excite her much, as she believes in “living the character”. She says, “Whenever a shot would not turn out as expected, Vinay Sapru sir (director of the movie) would tell us to stop acting and start living the role. So the aim was to always keep it organic. I believe that when you prepare too much for a role, you tend to lose its freshness.”
Having worked opposite Harshvardhan Rane, Mowra is all praises for her co-star.
She says, “He is one person who will remain my friend even when I become old. He is very consistent in everything he does. He is very special to me and I hope his magic spreads throughout the world.”
Her initial claim to fame came through an instagram video that Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor shared, which coincidentally was also her first video. However, she downplays the entire episode while saying, “It was something that just happened and I feel that it got more attention than it deserved. But, I guess that’s how things work in Bollywood.”
However, she has a lot of kind words for Ranbir, “He is an outstanding performer and anybody would love to be appreciated by him.”
Mowra feels very lucky and blessed to be part of Bollywood. She says, “I think the cross-border cultural exchange is wonderful. I feel that there was a strong positive energy from India that pulled me here. I feel a great level of acceptance and love.”
Currently, Mowra has signed two other movies, but doesn’t wish to talk about them at the moment. For now, she says, “It’s just Sanam Teri Kasam that I wish to focus on.”
