Thalaivar fans are in for a disappointment. Superstar Rajinikanth’s magnum opus Kabali might not make it to the theatres on 22 July. According to sources close to the project, the special effects for the film is taking longer than expected and in spite of all efforts to wrap it up, the film may not be ready for release on schedule.

This is the third time that there’s been a change in the release date for Kabali. A source close to the project reveals, “Every effort is being made to ensure the film meets its release date. But the film is not ready and Rajini sir is not back from the US.”

Apparently, the superstar is in the US for health reasons. As it always is with a ‘superstar’ release, this delay will also have wider implications. According to sources in the know, the release of Steven Spielberg’s new film BFG has also been put on hold surrounding the uncertainty of Kabali’s release. The source adds, “Both Rajinikanth and Spielberg’s films are targeted at family audiences and dubbed in multiple Indian languages. Reliance, the producers and distributors of the Spielberg film are not taking any risks. They’ll release BFG on July 22 only if Kabali is postponed.”
