Karisma Kapoor is going through a very painful divorce. And while her parents and sister Kareena have always stood by her, it’s her brother-in-law, Saif Ali Khan, who has been the most supportive. Says a source, “Karisma is very close to Saif. She has shared her marital problems with him throughout the painful breakup and he has advised her every step of the way.”

Kareena and Karisma live only two buildings away and they are in constant touch. Kareena says, “I am very protective of my sister, but Saif is even more protective of her. She is a wonderful person, who is very reserved and soft-spoken. Saif truly loves Lolo.”

We hear that Saif ensured that Karisma had all the help she needed. He advised her on the best legal counsel, helped her frame her letters, rejoinders and other legal documents. He also acted as her media watchdog when rumours of Karisma’s split with her husband began doing the rounds. Saif would ring up editors and journalists requesting them to refrain from writing about the sensitive issue until the matter reached some resolution.

According to a tabloid, Karisma had filed a domestic violence case against Sunjay Kapur and also demanded more than '10 lakh a month for the upkeep of her two children. Their divorce turned ugly when the actress alleged that he only married her because he wanted to be famous — she had called him ‘starstruck’. Her father Randhir Kapoor didn’t have any kind words for Sunjay Kapur and his family either. He also alleged that Sunjay was having an extra-marital affair. A petition by Sunjay, on the other hand, said that Karisma ‘cruelly deprived’ Sunjay’s ailing father access to his grandchildren, and he passed away six months ago ‘while pining for them’.

She hit back at Sunjay’s allegations through her petition where she said that she had been a victim of mental harassment.
