When the inimitable Shatrughan Sinha recently staged his popular evergreen play Pati

Patni Aur Main in his hometown Patna for the first time, he invited his political opponent and friend Nitish Kumar to watch the play.

Much to the Bihar chief minister’s surprise there was a reference to the alcohol prohibition in Bihar when Shatrughan’s character suddenly talked about friends not being able to have beer. While the minister’s coterie was quite tense as to how he would react to the political dig, Kumar enjoyed the prohibition reference thoroughly.

Shatrughan says, “It was all in good spirit, no pun intended. Over the years, I’ve added new lines and situations to the play. Since I was performing in Patna, a reference to the prohibition seemed appropriate.”

“Recently I had introduced some lines about censorship as an acknowledgement of the good work that my friend Pahlaj Nihalani is doing. The lines on drinking got me a lot of applause during the Patna performance. Even Nitishji appreciated it,” adds the ever-enterprising actor-politician.
