There is a strong buzz doing the rounds that Irrfan Khan’s latest film Madaari is about a vigilante against corruption. But Irrfan sets the record straight. The actor is quick to add that the film isn’t based on an individual. He says, “I don’t play a vigilante in Madaari. I play a man who feels that the system has collapsed completely and there is a need for a reformation. Neither does the film attack any political ideologies.”

The film narrates the story about a father who loses his child. Being a father of two sons did Irrfan dig into his emotions to play the role of grieving father in Madaari He states, “No, I never do that! I never draw connections between my own life and the characters I play. If as an actor you begin to delve deep into your own personal emotions and experiences, it can get very dangerous for you. When I go home, I leave my characters on the sets.” Talking about his thriller film, Irrfan says, “It’s a powerful subject. Although it is a thriller, it also has its share of drama. This is what I like about this script.”

Madaari marks Irrfan’s third film with director Nishikant Kamat. Previously the two worked on Mumbai Meri Jaan, and a pilot for a television show. Irrfan says, “Our association goes a long way. Many years ago, we shot the pilot for a television serial.” Irrfan sees a lot in common between himself and Nishikant, “We are both focused on our work so much so that we exclude everything else.”
