Royal Enfield sold 58,564 units of motorcycles in the domestic market in the month of April. This is the highest ever monthly sales of the iconic Indian bike manufacturer. It also exported 1,578 units of motorcycles which helped its combined sales figure soar past 60,000 units which is 25 per cent more than what the company managed to sell in the same month last year.

Royal Enfield’s success can be attributed to the retro-styled Classic range of motorcycles which has been very popular among Indian bikers. The Classic series register sales close to 40,000 units with the 350cc variant compromising of the lions share. The Thunderbird 350 and Thunderbird 500 remains among the most popular cruiser motorcycles to be sold in India. Though, we must add that the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Continental GT have struggled to post decent sales figure especially the later. RE is also working on developing a parallel-twin cylinder motorcycle with a rumoured displacement of 700cc, the upcoming Royal Enfield twin-cylinder has been spotted testing in India and Europe. It is most likely to be unveiled at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show later this year with a probable India launch in early 2018.

Royal Enfield also has set up a direct distribution subsidiary in Brazil headquartered in Sao Paulo as it plans to expand its footprint globally. It also has launched a new flagship store in Sao Paulo and announced that the newly-formed subsidiary - Royal Enfield Brazil - will be selling to dealers, as well as conduct all front end development and support activities such as marketing and after sales in the country. Royal Enfield’s first direct distribution subsidiary outside India was set up in North America, Royal Enfield North America (RENA) which commenced operations in 2015.
