Over 3,300 charging stations sanctioned for electric vehicles

The Ministry of Heavy Industry had sanctioned about 520 charging stations for Rs 43 crore under Phase-I of FAME-India Scheme

Electric car maker Tesla Motors has decided to stop offering unlimited free use of its 734 fast charging stations worldwide.

Chennai: The government has given sanction for installation of around 3,300 charging stations under the FAME scheme. Over 7.2 lakh electric vehicles have been registered on the Vahan portal.  

The Ministry of Heavy Industry had sanctioned about 520 charging stations for Rs 43 crore under Phase-I of FAME-India Scheme. Of this, 429 charging stations have been installed as of August 3, 2021. The ministry has also sanctioned 2,877 charging stations with a total investment of Rs 500 crore in 68 cities under FAME India scheme phase II, the minister informed the Rajya Sabha.

According to a new report by Grant Thornton Bharat-Ficci, India needs around four lakh charging stations for 20 lakh electric vehicles by the year 2026. Over 7.2 lakh electric vehicles have been registered under the Vahan portal.
