MG Motor's e-SUV makes a splash

Buoyed by the strong response for the electric SUV, the company has decided to prepone the launch of the SUV from January 27 to January 23.

The New Delhi-based car maker, which opened the pre-bookings for the MG ZS EV on December 22, closed it on January 17 to meet timely delivery to buyers.

PUNE: Even as the country has not been fully geared with the adequate infrastructure like charging stations, MG Motor has already sold over 2,100 units of its upcoming electric SUV, the ZS EV is less than a month.

In fact, MG Motor, the British brand owned by the Chinese biggest automaker SAIC, says that the ZS EV's booking numbers have surpassed the cumulative electric vehicle sales of Mahindra e-Verito and Mahindra e2o, Tata Motors Tigor EV, and Hyundai Kona EV for the April to December 2019 period, which stood at 1,554 units.

The New Delhi-based car maker, which opened the pre-bookings for the MG ZS EV on December 22, closed it on January 17 to meet timely delivery to buyers.

“The car has best specification and technology and driving performance is very good,” Rajeev Chaba, President and MD at MG Motor India told Financial Chronicle.

He said the company is supporting with charging infrastructure for the buyers at their homes and offices.

“We will announce the car’s price within week,” Chaba said.

Buoyed by the strong response for the electric SUV, the company has decided to prepone the launch of the SUV from January 27 to January 23. The e-SUV is expected to be priced close to Rs 20 lakh.
