Hero to launch Xtreme 200 S at Auto Expo 2018
The new motorcycle will go up against the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.
After showcasing the Xtreme 200 S concept at the 2016 Auto Expo, Hero MotoCorp has now confirmed its plan to launch the naked motorcycle at the 2018 Auto Expo.
The confirmation came directly from Dr Markus Braunsperger, CTO, Hero MotoCorp, in an interview with TOI. He was quoted saying: "If you might remember, I said that we will make the Xtreme 200 S happen before the next Auto Expo. So you can expect the Xtreme around the Auto Expo. We are at the finish line. Even with the XPulse, we have received big, positive feedback which will further enhance our efforts to make it happen."
In terms of design the Xtreme 200 S sports sharp and edgy lines with a familiar bikini fairing design and LED pilot lamps. The bike also features a muscular fuel tank, a sleek tail section with LED taillight and chunky tyres. While it is a new bike in a lot of ways, the concept did share some design elements with the Hero Xtreme Sports. However, it remains to be seen if the company has made any changes in the final production version.
The concept motorcycle shown off at the 2016 Auto Expo was reported to be powered by an all-new 200cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Power and torque outputs claimed by Hero for this motor were 18.5PS and 17.2Nm respectively, although the actual specs of the final production version are still to be disclosed. The show bike was also equipped with dual-channel ABS, and we expect this safety feature to make its way into production as well.
The Hero Xtreme 200 S will go up against the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. Apart from this, the company is also set to launch a few other motorcycles on December 21, 2017. To stay updated with what follows, watch this space.
