New Delhi: German auto major Volkswagen on Tuesday launched a new version of its premium sedan Passat at an introductory price of Rs 29.99 lakh.

The new Passat is based on the company's MQB platform and is powered by a 2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed automatic-DSG gearbox. The car comes in two variants with the entry level Comfortline priced at Rs 29.99 lakh and top end Highline tagged at Rs 32.99 lakh.

Volkswagen Group Sales India, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Steffen Knapp said the company has opened booking of the new Passat from Tuesday and deliveries to customers will start from January next year.

He said the new model will further accelerate the company's sales growth in India.

"So far this year we have grown by 17 per cent. The new Passat is the third and the final product that we are launching in India for this year and this should help us carry on with the growth momentum," he said.

The company had earlier this year introduced performance-oriented hatchback GTI and premium SUV Tiguan.

The newly launched Passat is equipped with features including nine airbags, hill start assist, reverse camera with 360 degree area view, park assist and electric adjustable front seat and easy open boot among others.
