New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed beleaguered firm Unitech to provide Rs 80,000 as compensation to each of the 39 flat buyers of its Vistas project in Gurgaon.

The homebuyers, who were supposed to get their flats by 2012, had sought a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each towards litigation cost. They have already been paid the principal amount and the 14 per cent interest by Unitech according to the apex court's previous order.

The order was passed by a bench consisting of chief justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud.

This order comes after homebuyers succeeded in their lawsuit against the company before the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in getting their principal amount and interest.

The buyers had originally moved the forum in 2014, following which Unitech had appealed in the court.
