Heavy industry ministry takes stock of BHEL's performance

The heavy industries ministry on Friday reviewed the performance and future readiness of state-run power equipment maker BHEL.

New Delhi: The heavy industries ministry on Friday reviewed the performance and future readiness of state-run power equipment maker BHEL and directed the company to focus on competitiveness, innovation and leveraging digital technologies.

Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industry, Asha Ram Sihag, appreciated the company's emphasis on diversification and stressed on the need to stay focused in these initiatives with clear strategies and targets.

"Sihag was presented an overview of the performance trends of the company, manufacturing prowess, project execution strengths, diversification plans and initiatives taken for enhancing competitiveness and building R&D capabilities, among others," a statement said.

"The secretary appreciated the varied business portfolio of BHEL, the range of activities that the company is undertaking and the manner in which the company is addressing the challenges through innovative business propositions, which are all signs of a vibrant organisation," it said.

According to the statement, Sihag lauded the approach the company is adopting to create new markets and suggested building flexibility into the organisation itself as a culture.

Mentioning that the country is proud of an organisation like BHEL, he acknowledged that the company's employees are its true asset.

The secretary assured BHEL of complete support from the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
