Adani group joins non-profit international entity

Infrastructure conglomerate joined as a member which is a non-governmental body.

Adani hopes to start shipping coal from Carmichael by March 2020 in the first stage of the project, which it bought amid a coal boom in 2010.

New Delhi: Infrastructure conglomerate Adani Group has joined Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organisation (GEIDCO) as a member, which is a non-governmental body dedicated to promoting sustainable development of energy worldwide.

The group claimed that it is the first Indian conglomerate to join GEIDCO.  GEIDCO is a non-profit international entity of globally  renowned firms, associations, institutions and individuals,  the Adani Group said in a statement.

According to the statement, the purpose of GEIDCO is to promote establishment of a Global Energy Interconnection system to meet global demand for electricity in a clean and green way to implement the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All and climate change initiatives and serve sustainable development.

Adani Green has operating projects of 800 mw and under construction projects of around 1,500 mw. The company, in a JV with Rajasthan, is developing the country's largest solar park with 10,000 mw capacity.  In Phase I, it is implementing a 2,000 mw solar park. The Adani group is also the largest integrated solar PV manufacturer in the country, it added.
