Amazon may deliver your Flipkart order and your food too
Amazon will offer delivery services to sellers irrespective of whether orders are placed via its website, others' or offline.
Mumbai: Don’t be surprised if the package you ordered on Flipkart is delivered by an Amazon delivery boy as the retail giant is offering logistics service to sellers, even if orders are placed via other websites.
Amazon is expanding its mammoth logistics business in India and will soon offer delivery for its registered sellers irrespective of whether the order is placed via its website or via others'. In fact, it has extending this service for delivery of orders made offline as well, said a report in the Economic Times.
In fact, Amazon is running a trial for offering these extended logistic services with 300 registered sellers, officials from the company, told ET. Amazon’s own logistics service is handled by Amazon Transportation Services (ATS).
The US retail behemoth is also eyeing the food delivery service market in India. It is looking to compete with Swiggy, which it wanted to acquire earlier.
Amazon’s biggest domestic competition, Flipkart, is also considering foraying into offline networks for its courier business. Ekart, which undertakes all Flipkart deliveries is readying for competing with DTDC, Blue Dart and others.
Since January, Amazon has pumped in USD 600 million (Rs 3,800 crore) in the Indian market. Depsite recording losses, it recently said it is committed to investing in India.
