Mumbai: When the government made linking of Aadhaar with PAN a mandatory exercise for all holders of these cards, it was seen as yet another 'imposing' policy stand. But many must have already known that the ruling would make filing of income tax returns a hassle-free exercise.

Now mentioning Aadhaar number at the time of filing income tax has been made compulsory from this year. In the past, only quoting Permanent Account Number or PAN for all tax related query was compulsory.

Take for instance, earlier when a taxpayer filed his or her income tax online they were required to take a printout of ITR-V or income tax returns-verification form and post it to Bengaluru office of income tax department. This is an existing  practice for those who file their returns online.

Those taxpayers who wanted to steer clear of this 'cumbersome' process opted for electronic or e-verification of their tax returns. The process requires generation of Electronic Verification Code using various options. Once, an EVC is generated, taxpayers could e-verify their returns.

However, with the linking of Aadhaar with PAN card, the whole exercise of e-verification does not take too much time. In certain cases wherein the internet speed is not slower or there is no server problem the e-verification will not take more than 20 seconds. This you can check on https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ website and enjoy a hassle free e-verification.
