Hyderabad: Boeing on Thursday said that it has has quadrupled its sourcing from India to over $1 billion in the past two years, according to a top official.

Speaing at the inauguration of the Hyderabad facility of Tata Boeing Aerospace (TBAL) on Thursday, Boeing Defence, Space and Security president and CEO Leanne Caret said, “We have invested tremendously in India because the future here is extremely bright. We’ve quadrupled our sourcing from India in the past two years to more than $1 billion.”

TBAL — a joint venture between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems — will be producing the fuselages for the AH-64 Apache helicopter at this facility. The delivery of the first batch of fuselage is expected later this year.

Ms Caret added that the partnership, which was announced in November 2015, has now expanded beyond just products and services to building a diverse talent pool. “We’re working with customers, suppliers and Indian universities to make sure we are getting the very best people in the best roles,” she said.

The facility, which was inaugurated by the Union defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will also be building secondary aerostructures and vertical spar boxes.

The helicopter has been selected for acquisition by the Indian armed forces.
