India adds 5400MW in FY2016-17
Ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) had set a target of adding 4000 MW wind power capacity in FY17.
New Delhi: In its attempt to push green energy, India has added record wind power capacity of over 5,400 MW in 2016-17.
Infact India has surpassed its own target. Ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE) had set a target of adding 4000 MW wind power capacity in FY17.
The country has been aggressively trying to go for green energy as part of its endeavour for clean environment.
Andhra Pradesh added most wind power capacity addition in 2016-17 at 2190 MW. AP was followed by Gujarat for adding most wind power capacity addition in the country. Around 1275 MW was added by the state. Karnataka was at third place and added 882 MW wind power capacity during the year.
In addition MP, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra,Telangana and Kerala have reported 357 MW, 288 MW, 262 MW, 118 MW, 23 MW and 8 MW wind power capacity addition respectively during 2016-17.
This year’s achievement surpassed the previous higher capacity addition of 3,423 MW achieved in last year. During 2016-17 MNRE took various policy initiatives in the wind energy sector that includes Introduction of Bidding in Wind Energy Sector, Re-powering Policy, Draft Wind-Solar Hybrid Policy and New Guidelines for Development of Wind Power Projects among others.
Meanwhile, PTC Energy on Sunday announced commissioning of five wind power projects with an aggregate capacity of 238.8 megawatts in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
With 50 MW operational capacity in wind power already in Madhya Pradesh, PEL’s portfolio of renewable energy projects has now scaled up to 288.8 MW, a company statement said.
