H1 sees 46 new hotels adding 3,509 keys

In terms of new properties being signed also, mid-scale remained top with 37 hotels and 2,900 keys.

Chennai: Hospitality industry added 46 new branded hotels with a total 3,509 keys in the first half of the year, while 85 new properties with an estimated 8,612 keys were signed for development in H1.

Among the different categories of hotels, mid-scale segment added the highest number of properties — 27 hotels with a total key-size of 1,642. In terms of new properties being signed also, mid-scale remained top with 37 hotels and 2,900 keys.

The upscale segment added 8 new properties with 715 rooms. Though luxury segment only got 5 new properties, 914 rooms were added to the existing inventory. Five more budget hotels with 182 keys too were added to the existing supply which stood at 2,92,796 keys as on June 2019.

In H1, deals were signed by different hospitality groups for launching 85 new properties with a total of 8,612 keys. Mid-scale segment once again saw the highest number of properties and keys — 37 hotels and 2,900 rooms. In the upscale segment, 15 properties and 2,597 rooms were added to the pipeline.

Domestic hotel operators dominated over international operators in terms of new signings at a ratio of 68:32.  In terms of hotel openings, tier I cities dominated with 1,355 keys in 8 hotels.
