We all become nostalgic when we see our old printed photos in dust-bound albums. They take us back to the time when digital technology was unknown and now though the advent of technology has surely made us store our memories digitally, the charm of printed photos can never be taken away from us. JustKapture, a Hyderabad-based startup founded by two IIIT-Hyderabad graduates, plans to fill this gap.

The startup company is founded on a unique idea of monetising blank space behind the photos to provide free-of-cost printing to its registered users.

So how did this idea come about JustKapture CEO Manish Agarwal explains, “In December 2014, when we got our digital photos printed at a nearby studio, we noticed that the space behind the photo was left unused. So we realised that this space is just getting wasted and thought monetising the blank space by putting ads. My friend Rahul, who is now CTO for Just-Kapture, and I worked on this concept and started the company while we were still working for an IT firm. Initially we had put localised ads behind the photos and give them for free to the customers, but slowly we have developed an algorithm wherein the ads are placed according the area and interest of the customers’ photos.”

The company, which has 7,000 registered customers and delivers only in Hyderabad, has got funded recently.

Ask him how does the whole process works and why he thinks that it will be a hit, pat comes the reply from Manish, “India as a country loves anything that is free and they are very happy if you can deliver something so precious for free. The customer needs to log in to our website and upload six photos of their choice, our team takes the order and the ads are placed on the photos according to the location and personal interest. A user can order only six photos as of now and these will be delivered in two weeks. The users can earn reward points by referral and based on this, we also give posters for free.”

Currently, JustKapture has 15 clients who advertise with them and they charge about Rs 20 for each advertisement from the clients. Within one year, the firm has achieved break-even and is looking for the next round of funding in December or January 2016.

“Although currently we only deliver in Hyderabad, we will be expanding to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi and Pune in the next two-three months. In the next 20 days we will also be announcing our mobile app,” Manish added.

So, next time you need to print your memories, you know where to head!
