ICC in a fix over government interference

Now that the Supreme Court has announced its verdict on the reform of the way cricket is run in India, it will be interesting to see what stand the International Cricket Council takes.

The ICC had strongly reprimanded the Sri Lanka Cricket recently when the SLC was being run by an “interim committee” selected by the Sri Lankan government and had ticked them off saying SLC needs to hold elections to select members to run their cricket.

The Nepal Cricket Association was banned by the ICC for the same reason.

The Supreme Court ruling, in a way, is an extension of “government’s interference” in the BCCI’s “internal” matters.

ICC chairman Shashank Manohar wouldn’t comment saying that he hadn’t read the full judgement copy. “I haven’t gone through the verdict in totality and would therefore reserve my comments on the same. My colleagues and I will discuss the matter and decide further course of action,” he added.

Rumours had it that Manohar had resigned from the BCCI, anticipating the supreme court’s verdict.
