20,000 blank birth and death certificates have gone missing from one of NDMC’s offices in Karol Bagh, following which the civic body has registered a case of theft and instituted an internal inquiry into the case.

The certificates kept in safe packings in a store room of the public health department were found missing on May 6. A police case has been registered in this connection, a senior North Delhi Municipal Corporation official said on Thursday.

The disappearance of 20,000 blank certificates, which are believed to be stolen, pose a major misuse threat through forgery which could be used in criminal and anti-national activities, the official said. An internal inquiry has been set up to probe the missing certificates case. The civic body has already issued a public notice.
