With an aim to align itself with Union government’s “Start-up India” initiative, Delhi University will be offering Rs 5 lakh grant to five students who have undergone a special training at the university to launch their start-ups.
The varsity’s Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC)-Centre for Science Education and Communication (CSEC) provided the training to almost 35 students for the first time.
Startup India programme is a flagship initiative which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. The initiative aims to fill gaps in the economy for the growth and development of start-ups and also boost digital entrepreneurship at the grassroots.
The university is also planning to hold such special training in every three months.
“We had invited applications from undergraduate students from across the country who wanted to launch their own start-up. A total of 253 students had applied, out of which 35 students were selected for the three-week training. Most of the students were from DU only,” said CIC-CSEC coordinator and deputy dean of DU research council Deepika Bhaskar.
“They were informed and trained about the specific details of a start-up and also introduced them to people who have started their own start-up business. They were trained how to select an idea, plan a strategy for the market and to make use of the Internet to increase the popularity of the start-up,” she added.
