Taking strong note of the alleged rape incident in JNU by an All-India Students’ Association leader, Anmol Ratan, the party on Sunday expelled him from the organisation, ending his primary membership.

Meanwhile ABVP alleged that Ratan was not just an activist but the sitting president of AISA when he committed the rape. According to ABVP, in October 2015, Ratan was re-elected as the state president of AISA Delhi in its unit conference. “He was never removed or replaced. So, he was the sitting president of AISA when he committed this rape on August 20, a fact that most newspapers have surprisingly not revealed. It is shocking that some newspapers are misleading the masses by not mentioning the fact that comrade Anmol Ratan was not merely an “activist” but the leader of AISA and its Delhi chief,” said Saket Bahuguna, ABVP Delhi state secretary.

Interestingly, Ratan had been actively participating in various protests that were held in the national capital against rape cases and for women safety. He even represented his organisation at various platforms to speak on these issues. In one of the protests last year, Ratan had demanded resignation of Delhi police’s top brass Deepak Mishra for his “insensitive” comments on rape in the wake of sexual assault on two minors in the national capital. “Two minors were raped in the national Capital and a senior police official says ‘rapes keep taking place. in other cities too and it occurs in Delhi...’.Hence, we staged protest over the issue seeking his resignation,” the then AISA’s Delhi unit chief Anmol Ratan had said.
