Nearly 80 per cent of applicants seem to be choosing English Honours, making it one of the most popular courses this year. The other popular courses like B.Com and Economics Honours seem to be becoming less appealing to the aspirants as the number of applicants for these courses have gone down

However, the huge craze for English Honours could have an impact on the cut-offs for the course in the varsity colleges.

Political Science (Hons) is at third in terms of popularity this year.

According to a DU official, so far the online registrations, which reached 2,44,995 on the university admission portal on Saturday, has nearly 80 per cent of students who gave priority to English (Hons). B.A. (Hons) has received about 70 per cent of applications followed by 50 per cent of applications for Political Science Honours.

The reason for such high number of applications is because students from all three streams — humanities, commerce and science — show interest in a subject like English.

The B.Com programme, which used to be the second most course in the top 10 favorite subjects, is now at the fourth place, while Economics (Hons) has jumped to the fifth position.
