In order to examine the skills of the candidates seeking admission in Delhi University through sports quota, the varsity, for the first time, has decided to include Arjuna awardees and Ranji-level players in the college sports committee.
The university sports council, which is yet to finalise the names of these players, will send the list to all the colleges once it’s prepared. The college will then choose any one of the popular personalities from the list and include him or her in the sports committee which would be formed for the trials.
The varsity will record the trials in order to maintain transparency during admissions.
“The college sports committee that will be formed during the trials will also include a legendary player from the field of sports. They might be either an Arjuna awardee or a Ranji-level player. For this, we are all set to talk to the Sports Authority of India. Once the list is prepared with famous names from all fields of sports, it would be sent to all the colleges confidentially. Having a legendary player in the committee would not only help the candidate gain confidence but will also avoid the feeling of impartiality towards them,” DU Sports Council chairman R.C. Dubey said.
The sports committee will consist of the college principal as president and the physical education department in-charge as the convenor, along with the physical education teacher as one of the members. The other members would include the player chosen from the confidential list sent to the college, one varsity sports council member and a subordinate of the vice-chancellor.
