BJP leaders given clean chit by Delhi police

As a controversy rages over the murder of NDMC legal adviser M.M. Khan, the Delhi police on Thursday claimed it is conducting an impartial probe into the matter and gave clean chit to BJP MP Maheish Girri and NDMC vice-chairman Kanwar Singh Tanwar.

A senior police officer said that letters being circulated in the media by one political party have been thoroughly scrutinised and no evidence has been found against

Mr Girri and the NDMC vice-chairman. The letters have also been seized by the investigating agency. All the relevant documents related to the file of the Hotel Connaught have been seized from the NDMC, the police added.

“The investigation in M.M. Khan murder case has been conducted professionally. We are about to file chargesheet against seven-arrested accused, who are also named in the FIR. We have thoroughly researched each and every fact and evidence in the case during our investigation. No involvement of any politician was found in it,” said R.P. Upadhyay, joint commissioner of po-lice (southeastern range).

He added that there have been reports in the media that the investigation was being influenced to save a few persons involved in the murder of M.M. Khan, which is totally false, as the investigation of the case has been done in a fair and professional manner. “We work as per the rule of law. The attempt by certain quarters of the society to politicise the murder case of the government employee is totally unfair,” he added.

The Centre on Thursday asked Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to allow an impartial probe into the Khan murder to be completed and not to “lower the dignity” of the office he is holding by giving “political colour” to it.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday alleged that lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung’s role in the Khan case was “suspicious” and demanded he be arrested. “His (Mr Jung’s) role is suspicious in the case. Why had he written to the NDMC, seeking action against Khan We demand that the L-G be arrested and sacked from his position,” AAP Delhi unit convener Dileep Pandey said at a press conference.

Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said the Delhi police is investigating the Khan murder and is making “good progress.”

“The Delhi police should be allowed to do an impartial probe. Let them complete the investigation. No political colour should be given to the case. People holding constitutional posts should not lower its dignity by making indecent comments,” he said.

Mr Rijiju’s comments come after Mr Kejriwal accused BJP MP Maheish Girri of being allegedly involved in the Khan murder.
